The Cello
The cello's warm, resonant tone closely mirrors the human voice. Widely beloved in classical music and beyond, it forges a deep emotional connection, speaking directly to the heart with intimate, soulful expression.
What it is
The cello emerged in northern Italy around 1520-1550 as the bass member of the violin family, alongside the violin and viola. Early makers such as Andrea Amati crafted larger “bass violins” from the outset to provide deeper tones, rather than enlarging an existing violin design later.
Antonio Stradivari refined and standardized its modern proportions around 1707. With the addition of the endpin in the 19th century and a growing solo repertoire, the cello evolved into the versatile instrument heard in orchestras, chamber music, and beyond today.
Did you know?
Until the mid-1800s most cellists gripped the instrument solely between their calves—no endpin. The spike only became widespread after cellist Adrien-François Servais adopted it for greater stability and richer sound.

English Matters
Local or international students are welcome as long as they understand English. All lessons will be conducted in English.

Students Pursuing a Diploma
For diploma candidates, you must have already completed Grade 8 practical exam, be it of ABRSM, Trinity College of London (TCL), or London College of Music (LCM).
Course Structure
Each lesson blends practical playing with essential theory. Students spend time at the instrument developing technique and musicality while also learning notation, rhythm, and musical concepts—both elements working together to build well-rounded, confident player.
** For Diploma in Performance, it will be solely on practical. Grade 6-8 students can opt out of the subject of Theory as well.

The study of notes, scales, rhythm, and harmony that helps you understand and even create music.
